The raw images where converted and calibrated in in ImagePlus v1.71 before they were registered and averaged together using RegiStar v1.06. Unsharp mask, contrast stretching and color balance in PictureWindow Pro v3.1. |

It’s worth noticing that from our high latitude of 60 degrees North the maximum possible altitude for this object is only about 25 degrees and thus the only usable window for imaging this object is just before and just after it crosses the meridian.
On this particular night interference from the Moon limited this window even further. With only about 1 ½ hours available we decided to utilize the dark skies to take as many “deep exposures” as possible, which of course resulted in the burnt out core of the nebula. We plan to take a series of shorter exposures later on and combine these with this image to regain the information in the burnt out parts of the nebula! |
